Terry Bullingham 77 was a Helicopter Maintinence Crew for a Wessex 3, Humphrey anti submarine helicopter for the Navy. In 1982 he was on board the HMS Antrim based at the San Carlos Water in the Falklands. On the 21st May 1982, 2 Argentinian Skyhawks dropped 2 bombs onto the Antrim but they failed to explode. Thinking that they had exploded Terry was hosing down the decks to keep it cool, when 2 Argentinian Mirage jets with 30mm canons fired upon the deck towards Terry. He sustained shrapnel in one eye and ruptured the other. Once he returned back to the Uk and was in Moorfields Eye hospital he was told that he would be permanently blind in both eyes. âThis news came as a relief because you know the bottom lineâ Pictures by Richard Cannon
