IMAGES INFO
Portraits - Commissioned
A selection of images from my collection.
Comic in a White Suit - Personal Project
Raising money for Comic Relief. After getting a white suit from the Saville Row tailor Oswald Boateng, I had several weeks to complete my project of shooting over 30 British comedians. I emailed hundreds and stated that I would take up no more than 15 minutes of their time a convenient location of their choice. So with no prior knowledge of the setting I arrived with a couple of lights and began to shoot them in inventive ways. The comedians were then invited to sign the suit and we raised money auctioning the suit in their first twitter auction. I also had an exhibition where the sales of the prints were also given to the charity.
Made In Britain - Commissioned
This was a feature to showcase British manufacturers in the UK. I was asked to speak with each company, to see what was possible to photograph and come up with some quirky ideas to hold the interest of the magazine reader.
Classical Music - Commissioned
A selection of images of classical artists.
Corporate Portraits - commissioned
Shot for a variety of magazines and corporate clients. Always looking to push the boundaries of business photography whilst still keeping a traditional edge.
Animal Magic - Commissioned
A series of portraits which ran in Country Life magazine. The brief was to photograph keepers of unusual animals in an engaging and interesting way. I was extremely grateful to the keepers and their help to get my ideas across to get that special shot.
National Treasures - Commissioned
A selection of portraits of artisans of rare crafts whose practises have been in decline in the UK. Some of the subjects you see are one of a hand few that are still practicing their craft and in some case are the only ones left. The images were published as a double page spread in every issue, highlighting that decline.
Leading Lights - Commissioned
A series of 19 portraits to challenge the perception of careers in science, technology, engineering and maths. These portraits are all of Stem ambassadors who tour schools to promote the sciences. I was given a list of hundreds of ambassadors to select the most photogenic opportunities. The images were used as a touring exhibition around the UK to inspire students to take up careers in science.
Gold Refinery - Commissioned
Shot for a feature on the UK's only gold refinery. Through a chemical procedure, 99.99% pure gold is created.
My Street - Neighbours in lockdown - Personal Project.
I decided to use the same set that I have been using on my rare commissioned portraits during lockdown, using free standing backdrops and battery packs for the lighting, whilst keeping a 2m distance. I placed notes through the letterboxes on my neighbours and suggested they could bring some meaningful items that represented things that had helped them through the lockdown. I shot outside my house and blocked off our small road and shot against the backdrop showing the empty street to emphasise the effects of lockdown.
Haircuts - Personal Project
I set up my background and stands outside my local barbers on the first day that the hairdressers were allowed to open after lockdown. When a customer arrived I would ask to photograph them before and after their haircuts. I started at 8:30 and finished at 18:30 and managed to get a cross section of ages albeit there were male only. Some of the customers it was their first haircut since March and others their family tried to cut their hair to limited success.
Boxers - Personal Project
After visiting a East London boxing gym , I noticed images around the walls of boxers standing with fists raised and looking quite staged. I wanted to try to improve on this and so I set myself the project of going around boxing gyms and shooting these amazing athletes shadow boxing to camera straight after they had finished with their training. Firstly to get the boxers looking like they had been in a fights but also to freeze frame their muscle tension as they were throwing punches in front of my camera. I also wanted to shoot them in black and white to give a certain ageless feel to the portraits.
The Fights - Personal Project
Shot at various venues around London. Purposely avoiding contact.
